Treating Silverfish

Silverfish can be a very annoying pest as they will feed on non-synthetic clothing and produce a small holes in T-shirts, business shirts and even expensive business suits, ladies wear etc..

People frequently find that they get an infestation when shifting from one property to another, especially if they have had their property in storage for a length of time. When they move into the new house, the silverfish move with them.

Once they are established they will find a home in cardboard boxes, wardrobes and draws, but also frequently infest roofs spaces and spread throughout the house via the roof. Many years ago fumigation strips were available the could be hung in cupboards and these were very effective, however due to the toxic nature of the chemical they have been withdrawn from the market.

Treatment in houses today would normally include fogging or dusting of the roof cavity with a low toxicity product as well is spraying the surfaces inside the cupboards and wardrobes with an effective low toxicity pyrethroid spray. As it is not practical to spray clothing silverfish/moth flakes are available which can be sprinkled in areas where clothing is stored which will also safely eradicate this pest.
