There have been reports recently and the media about an upsurge in termite attacks of homes on the Gold Coast. Over the past five years activity had diminished but there have been increasing reports of attacks inside homes and also on outdoor fencing.
As it can be difficult for home owners to determine whether or not termites are present in their home, it is absolutely essential that regular inspections be carried out. Sadly, many homeowners either forget to arrange their inspection or they decide to “put it off” until a more convenient time. Unfortunately, significant damage can be present without being noticed.
Termites frequently enter homes from below the ground and make their way into timber wall frames that are concealed by plasterboard. Often the termites start the damage low in the wall attacking timber base plates and then move higher up the ceiling. It is generally significantly expensive to repair damage that has occurred in roof spaces and for that reason it is a good investment to have the inspection so that activity can be detected as early as possible.
It should be pointed out that when termites are discovered inside your house that homeowners make no attempt whatsoever to deal with this themselves. Some of the cheaper treatment options require that live termites be present so that special baits, foams or dusts can be applied to the activity. As such, it is always disappointing for the termite Inspector to discover that the homeowner has been dealing with it themselves.
